Convert Publisher to Word
Publisher content can be moved into Word, but Word is usually better for recovering document text than preserving a carefully designed page layout.
Use Word for text-heavy documents
Word can be a useful destination for articles, letters, simple newsletters, and publications where the written content matters more than exact placement.
Microsoft documents a Publisher save-to-Word option, but complex text boxes, columns, shapes, and layered images should be reviewed after conversion.
Use PDF or PowerPoint for designed publications
For brochures, event programs, certificates, signs, and image-heavy newsletters, create a PDF first so the original design remains accessible. A PowerPoint version is generally a better editing format than Word for page-based layouts.
Keep the source and both rescue formats
Do not discard the original .pub file. Store it with the preserved PDF and the editable replacement so future staff can verify content and choose the most useful format.
